On October 28th, 2009 Phillies hurler Cliff Lee threw a Game 1 World Series gem against the New York Yankees. Lee’s complete game 6-1 win earned him a spot in the record books as the 1st MLB pitcher to throw a complete World Series game with zero earned runs, zero walks, and 10 strike outs.  Though the Phils lost the series to the Yankees 4 games to 2, Cliff Lee picked up both Phillies wins.

On October 29th, 2008, Phillies pitcher Brad Lidge struck out Tampa Bay Rays Eric Hinske to give the Phillies a game 5 4-3 win at Citizen’s Bank Park, and their 2nd World Series Championship. Cole Hamels was named World Series MVP. The World Series Championship also ended a 25-year championship drought for the City of Philadelphia (100 consecutive championship-less seasons).

On October 23rd, 2005 vs. San Diego Chargers, Eagles Quintin Mikell blocked a FG and teammate Matt Ware returned it 65 yards for a TD. It was the first blocked FG returned for a TD in Eagles team history.

On October 23rd, 1993, the Phillies lost the 1993 World Series to the Toronto Blue Jays when Joe Carter hit a walk-off 3-run homer off Mitch Williams to win the series 4 games to 2.

On October 23rd, 1993, nursing a game 6 one-run lead, Phillies pitcher Mitch Williams served up a 3-run homer to Toronto Blue Jays slugger Joe Carter, giving the Blue Jays a walk-off 8-6 win and the World Series Championship. It was the 5th World Series appearance in Phillies history, and 4th loss.

On October 21st, 1980, Phillies pitcher Tug McGraw struck out Kansas City Royals OF Willie Wilson to give the Phillies a 4-1 game 6 win and the 1st World Series Championship in team history. Tug McGraw had 4 postseason saves, Steve Carlton had 3 wins, and Mike Schmidt was named World Series MVP.

On October 20th, 1996 vs. Miami Dolphins, Eagles WR Irving Fryar had a team record-tying 4 TD catches.   He is the oldest NFL player to have 4 TD catches in one game. 

On October 20th, 1993 the Phillies lost game 4 of the 1993 World Series to the Toronto Blue Jays 15-14. The 29 total runs scored are the most for a World Series game in MLB history.
