On August 23^rd, 2009, in a 9-7 win over the New York Mets, Phillies 2B Eric Bruntlett had an unassisted triple play in the 9^th inning. It was just the 15^th unassisted triple play of the modern era.

On August 20^th, 2001, the Flyers ended the Eric Lindros era in Philly when GM Bob Clarke shipped him off to the New York Rangers for defenseman Kim Johnsson (Barry Ashbee Award in 2002 and 2004), Jan Hlavac and Pavel Brendl.  Lindros requested he be traded to his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs, and Clarke, shipping him to the Big Apple, was considered a final slap in the face.

Truth is stranger than fiction – On August 17, 1957 as the Phillies were hosting the New York Giants, Phillies legend Richie Ashburn fouled off a pitch that landed in the stands breaking the nose of a woman spectator. The woman, Alice Roth, wife of Philadelphia Bulletin Sports Editor Earl Roth, was hit again on the very next pitch as she was being carried off on a stretcher.

On August 15^th, 1990 Phillies pitcher Terry Mulholland threw a no-hitter vs. San Francisco Giants.  It was the 1^st no-hitter ever at the Vet. It was also the 1^st no-hitter by a pitcher against his former team in 26 years.

On August 12^th, 1994, the Major League Baseball season ground to a halt as a result of what became the league’s longest work stoppage. It was the 1^st season in 90 years to not have a World Series.

On August 12^th, 2016, Phillies pitcher Jake Thompson did something no Phillies pitcher had ever done. Thompson had 4 strikeouts in the 2^nd inning vs Colorado Rockies. It was just Thompson’s 2nd MLB game, and 6^th MLB inning pitched.  It was the 47^th 4-strikeout inning in National League history.
