National College Football Championship!

The Clemson Tigers are trying to claw their way back against the Tigers of LSU.  A National Championship that pits the Tigers against the Tigers is an unusual occurrence. So I started imaging other college championships I would have liked to have seen:

The Vermont Catamounts scratched their way to victory over the Catamounts of Western Carolina after their sleek and speedy victories over the Houston Cougars, Georgia State Panthers, and Villanova Wildcats (who themselves had beaten the Wildcats of Kansas State University.)

The Fighting Saints of Carroll College one-upped the Battlin’ Bishops from Ohio Wesleyan University in the Haven’t-Got-A-Prayer Bowl.   In the See division the Bloomfield College Deacons were terrorized by the Demon Deacons of Wake Forrest.

The Mary Baldwin College Fighting Squirrels got carried away in the Predator Bowl against the high-flying North Dakota Fighting Hawks, while Edinboro University Fighting Scots battled it out with the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley U, the winner moving on to play the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in the Monarchy Bowl.

In the DeerPark Water Bowl, the Fighting Camels of Campbell U took on the humpless Camels of Connecticut College.  The pregame prediction of a resounding Connecticut victory just didn’t hold water.

The Scottsdale Community College Artichokes coughed up their shot at taking the Pasta Bowl when they were devoured by the Fighting Pickles of North Carolina SFTA. The Fighting Pickles were favored after they made a meal out of last year’s champion Flaming Smelts of Shimer College.

The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles soared to victory over the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.

It was a real Illinois-style showdown as the Western Illinois Fighting Leathernecks tried to circle the wagons to hang on against the charging Illinois Fighting Illini.

The matchups for the 1st round of the inaugural Color-Me-Mine tournament are set. Florida State College Blue Wave hosts the Green Wave of Tulane… Dartmouth Big Green host Big Blue of Bluefield State… Duke Blue Devils face the Red Devils of Dickinson College… St. Johns Red Storm blows in against the Silver Storm of ASA Miami which had previously defeated the Southern Nazerene U Crimson Storm which has never been confused with the Alabama Crimson Tide!

In the preliminary round, the U of P Quakers had no punch against the Fighting Quakers of Wilmington College. The only other game on the docket… the Red Men of Carthage College handled the Blue Boys of Illinois College in a game that sparked outrage at the officiating.

*Sigh* Only six more months till Eagles training camp! (and yes…. All those colleges are real!)
