On May 5th, 2000 Flyers captain Keith Primeau scored 12:01 into the 5th overtime period (152:01) beating Penguins goaltender Ron Tugnutt with a wicked wrister to end the 3rd longest NHL playoff game and the longest since the 1930s.

On This Date…

 On May 5th, 1974, the Flyers defeated the New York Rangers 4-3 in game 7 of the semi-finals. Gary Dornhoefer scored twice in the game and Dave Schultz pummeled Rangers Dale Rolfe, leaving him bloodied. Rolfe was the Ranger whose shot from the point three games earlier hit Flyers Barry Ashbee in the eye and ended his career.   The game 7 win gave the Flyers their 1st conference championship, and set the stage for the Stanley Cup Finals pitting the Broad Street Bullies against the Big Bad Bruins.
