On January 21st, 2018 at the Linc, the Eagles spoil the Minnesota Vikings bid to become the 1st team in NFL history to play a Super Bowl game on their home field. The Birds dismantled the Vikings 38-7 sending the Birds to their 3rd Super Bowl appearance, Super Bowl LII vs New England Patriots, in Minnesota.

On January 19th, 2003 the improbable happened. The Eagles weren’t supposed to lose the last game ever at the Vet. They did. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers weren’t supposed to be able to win in the cold. They did. The Ronde Barber interception still gives Eagles fans nightmares. The Bucs came to chilly Philly and beat the Eagles 27–10 ending the Birds bid for a trip to Super Bowl XXXVII.

On January 18th, 2009 in Arizona, the Eagles once again come up short in the NFC Championship game falling to the Arizona Cardinals 32-25. The Eagles had the lead with three minutes to play and couldn’t hold it. Its the 2nd NFC Conference Championship that the Eagles lost to Kurt Warner (2001 Conf Champ St. Louis Rams 29-24).

On January 11th, 2004 in a playoff game vs. Green Bay Packers, Eagles WR Freddie Mitchell caught a 28-yard Donovan McNabb pass on a 4th and 26 play with the game on the line and the Eagles trailing by 3. The catch extended the Eagles drive which led to tying the game and winning it in overtime, sending the Eagles to the NFC Championship game vs Carolina Panthers.

On Jan 11th, 1976, the Flyers hosted the Moscow Central Red Army ice hockey team as part of the Super Series tour. After a vicious first period hit by Flyer’s defenseman Ed Van Impe on the Red Army’s Valeri Kharlamov, the Soviet coach Konstantin Loktev pulled his team from the ice. It took Ed Snider threatening the Soviets with not getting paid to get them back on the ice. It’s one of the iconic moments of the Broad Street Bullies. An irate Loktev called the Flyers play, “Animal Hockey.” Ironically, the tournament slogan that was printed on the game tickets: “May We Live In Peace.” The Flyers won the game 4-1 outshooting the Soviets 48-13 and were the only NHL team to beat the Red Army team during the Super Series of 1975-1976.

On January 11th, 1981 the Eagles got in the Cowboys’ heads by making them wear blue, and then beat them 20-7 for the NFC Conference Championship to earn a trip to the Superdome for Super Bowl XV vs Oakland Raiders. The win also completed the Philly quartet of all four teams reaching their respective Finals for the 1980 season (Flyers vs New York Islanders, Sixers vs LA Lakers, Phillies over the KC Royals, Eagles vs Oakland Raiders).
