On June 6th, 1967, a day after officially becoming an NHL team, the Flyers selected Bernie Parent with their 1st expansion pick.

Bernie Parent was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1971 in a three-way deal with the Boston Bruins that landed the Flyers Rick MacLeish.  Parent was tutored under legendary goalie Jacques Plante while in Toronto.  In 1972-73, Parent was lured to the fledgling WHA by the Miami Screaming Eagles.  The Eagles never got off the ground, pardon the pun, so Parent ended up with the Philadelphia Blazers. During this time, Parent’s NHL rights were still owned by Toronto. The Flyers traded Doug Favell to Toronto for the rights to Bernie Parent and “00” became #1 and led the Flyers to their 1st Stanley Cup Championship.
