On October 12^th, 1980 the Phillies defeated the Houston Astros 8-7 in 10 innings to win their third NL Pennant. 2B Manny Trillo was the NLCS MVP as the Phillies won the series 3 games to 2.

On October 11^th, 1967, the Flyers played their 1^st NHL hockey game, a 5-1 loss to the California Seals in Oakland.  Bill Sutherland scored the 1^st Flyers goal in franchise history.

On October 11^th, 1979, the Flyers retired goaltender Bernie Parent’s #1 jersey.

On October 11^th, 1973, Kate Smith did her first live performance of God Bless America at the Spectrum before the Flyers 2-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.  

On October 8^th, 2015 vs Tampa Bay Lightning, Claude Giroux and Scott Laughton were both awarded penalty shots. It’s the only multiple penalty shot game the Flyers have had. Neither player scored. 

On October 8^th, 2006, Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard had a 102-yard INT TD return vs.  Dallas Cowboys.

On October 7^th, 1950, the Phillies were swept 4 games to none by the New York Yankees in the Phillies 2^nd World Series appearance.

On October 6^th, 1923, Boston Braves infielder Ernie Padgett turned an unassisted triple play against the Phillies in the 4^th inning of the last game of the 1923 season. It was the 1^st triple play ever in the National league, and 4^th in modern day MLB history. It was the Philly-born Padgett’s 4^th MLB game of his career.   

On October 6^th, 2010, in his first-ever postseason start, Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay threw a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds in the NLDS. It was just the 2^nd postseason no-hitter in MLB history. Halladay became the 1^st pitcher in 37 years to throw two no-hitters in same season (May 29^th perfect game vs Marlins), and the first ever to throw a no-hitter AND a perfect game in the same season.

Eagles N.D. Kalu had a pick six vs Washington Redskins on October 5^th, 2003 in an Eagles 27-25 victory.

On October 5^th, 1996 the Flyers played their first regular season home game at their new arena, the Core States Center (Wells Fargo Center). The Flyers lost to the Florida Panthers 3-1. Dainus Zubrus scored the Flyers 1^st goal, and Dan Kordic had the Flyers first penalty, a 5-minute fighting major.

On October 4^th, 1959 vs. New York Giants, Eagles Tommy McDonald scored four touchdowns (tied for team record). 

On October 4^th, 2009, Phillies 2B Miguel Cairo hit a 4^th inning homer in the last game of the season, a 7-6 win over the Florida Marlins giving the Phillies their current team-record of 224 home runs in a season.  It was the only HR Miguel Cairo ever hit for the Phils.
