On September 11th, 2004, Phillies catcher Todd Pratt homered off New York Mets pitcher Steve Trachsel in the second inning of a 13 inning 11-9 Phillies win. The HR was the 187th of the season for the Phillies, breaking a 27-year team record. A September call-up by the name of Ryan Howard hit his first career home run later in the same game.  The Phillies finished 2004 with 215 homers. The Phils broke the team record again with 216 in 2006, and then again in 2009 with 224.

On September 10th, 2017 Eagles DE Fletcher Cox recovered a Kirk Cousins fumble and returned it 20 yards for a TD vs Washington Redskins. It was his 2nd career fumble recovery TD, both of which came in season openers, and were the last score of the game.

On September 5th, 1913 the Phillies and the Boston Braves played a double header in Boston. The Philies won game 1 by a score of 1-0. Game 2 ended in a 0-0 tie in 10 innings. The 1 total run scored in a doubleheader is a MLB record that still stands over 100 years later.

On September 3rd, 2006, Ryan Howard became first Phillie in team history to hit 50 home runs in a single season. Howard finished the 2006 season with career high 58.

On September 3rd, 2000, during the Eagles season opener, the temperature in Dallas was 109 degrees at kick-off. The temperature actually rose throughout the game. The Eagles training staff had players drinking juice from dill pickle jars to retain body moisture and fight dehydration.  It worked. A number of Cowboys were sidelined from the oppressive Texas heat but no Eagles were. The eagles won the “pickle juice” game, 44-14.

Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez became just the 10th pitcher in MLB history to reach 100 wins in both leagues when he notched his 3rd win in a Phillies uniform on September 3rd,  2009.  

Eagles RB Duce Staley had a team-record 262 yards from scrimmage vs. Dallas Cowboys on September 3rd, 2000.
